Help for the SVP
Following their meeting on 16 June 2014, Cardiff Circle was pleased to entertain Jackie Symonds and Ken Ryan as its guests for dinner. Jackie and Ken are respectively President of Cardiff West & East District Councils of the St Vincent de Paul Society. The SVP had been nominated by Cardiff Immediate Past President, Bill O’Brien, to benefit from his Presidential year charity fund. Jackie and Ken received, on behalf of the SVP, a cheque for £2,000 from Bro Bill. In thanking the Circle for its generous donation Ken said that in East District the money would help to fund the winter night shelter for the street people. The shelter provides a hot meal, bed & breakfast along with medical and dental treatment and access to representatives of Social Services to give advice on benefits and the like. Jackie in her response said that in Cardiff West it would help to continue the work the SVP does in providing furniture, bedding and similar items to people who have been found a home but cannot afford the basic essentials to put in it. It will also be used to support their charity shops which are a new initiative in Cardiff.
