Somerset Railway Trip

Cardiff Let Off Steam

On 30 May 2015, Cardiff Circle President, Bro John Edwards, made his first social event a trip on the West Somerset Railway. 28 Brothers, ladies, children, friends and 1 dog departed Bishop’s Lydeard station bound for Minehead After a pleasant train journey through the beautiful Somerset countryside and a short walk on arrival, a very enjoyable lunch was taken at a local restaurant in Minehead. This was followed by a stroll along the esplanade taking in the sea air and gazing across the Channel back to Cardiff. The day was rounded off by a return trip to Bishop’s Lydeard pulled by the Dunster Castle Express. Much reminiscing was done by those old enough to remember when a trip by steam train was as commonplace as today’s trips on diesel and electric trains.
