Off to Belarus
At the opening of their meeting on 17 September 2012, Cardiff President Bro Mark Johnson was delighted to announce that in attendance were two of the three young people who had received Bursary awards from the Association. Joseph Knight and Rachel O’Brien who are pupils at Cardiff High School, who were accompanied by Val Cousins their group leader, were presented with cheques for £100 each and also received a similar amount on behalf of Harri Tatnell who was unable to attend. The three young people are leaving at the end of October to work in an orphanage in Belarus. Val Cousins thanked the Association for the kind donations to the three young people and said that the work that they, and others, would carry out would make a tremendous difference to the unfortunate children in the orphanage. By coincidence, Rachel was also accompanied by her father, Peter, who was attending for the first time as a Visiting Gentleman. At the request of Bro Mark, Joseph & Rachel agreed to come back later in the year and talk to the Circle about their experiences in Belarus.
