Cardiff Hits 80% of 2102 Target

Cardiff Circle crept ever closer to their target of 10 new members in 2012 when the eighth enrolment of the year took place at their August meeting in the presence of Provincial President Mike Rooney. The target looks to be well in reach as there are a further four Visiting Gentlemen most of whom are expressing a desire to join the Circle. Cardiff Vice-President Bill O’Brien, standing in for President Mark Johnson who was away on holiday, welcomed John Barbato to the Association and the Circle. Bro Bill said that he was particularly delighted to be able to conduct an enrolment as part of his first meeting in the chair. Bro Gervaise O’Donovan welcomed Bro John behalf of Province and congratulated Cardiff Circle on their excellent recruitment record this year. Bro John, who had attended a number of meetings as visiting gentlemen and, with his wife Ann, Circle social events has 4 children some of whom have also attended social functions. He is a member of St Brigid & St Paul’s parish where the Circle is now building up a core of Catenian membership. At the meal following the meeting Brother John explained that being of Italian extraction his real name was Giovanni but he had always been known as John. He went on to give a brief outline of his life as Chartered Civil Engineer, first with the Land Authority for Wales, then the Welsh Development and finally the Welsh Assembly Government. John said that he was looking forward to his life as a Catenian as he had been made very welcome at meetings and social events since the very first time he attended some months ago.
