The Force is With Cardiff
At their July meeting, Cardiff President Bill O’Brien was delighted to enrol Ian Tumelty as a member of Cardiff Circle keeping up the Circle’s remarkable sequence of enrolments over the last 2 years. Bro Ian is married to Bev and they have three grown up children and a granddaughter and is a member of St Brigid’s parish. He joined South Wales Police from school and spent thirty two years with the force serving in Cardiff, rising to the rank of Inspector. He had an interesting career that included deployment throughout the coalfields of England and Wales during the Miners’ strike as a young constable and later as an expert on reducing alcohol related violence giving presentations throughout the UK and in the United States. He was seconded as Temporary Chief Inspector to the Home Office during the last years of his service with the Tackling Knives Action Program and worked across the UK to reduce knife crime. Since his retirement he worked with LOCOG to deliver the Olympic football events in Cardiff and as deputy Safety Officer at the Glamorgan Cricket Club. He currently works on a consultancy basis with the Home Office Ending Gangs strategy. At the dinner following the meeting Bro Ian said that he was delighted to join the Association and looks forward enjoying the fraternity and faith support the Cardiff Circle offers.
