ChildLine Charity Presentation

Another Counsellor for ChildLine

At their post meeting dinner on 18 January 2016, Cardiff Circle were delighted to welcome Emma Brennan, the local Community Fundraising Manager for ChildLine. Before presenting Emma with a cheque for £1,515 raised during at a charity golf day held last summer, Cardiff President John Edwards said that he had seen the work of ChildLine during his career in the police force and knew what a vital service they provide for vulnerable children. Emma thanked the Circle for their generous donation and gave a brief history of ChildLine from its foundation in 1986 by Esther Ranzen through to its more recent merger into the NSPCC. She explained how the service had developed from a purely telephone helpline to its present form where most of the contact is on-line. She also said that unfortunately they were only able to respond to 3 out of 4 contacts from children due to a shortage of counsellors but the donation from the Circle would pay for the training of one new counsellor.
