Caring for those who Care for Carers
At a dinner on 14 May 2012, Cardiff Circle was pleased to have as its guests, Shan Parfitt from Crossroads Care Cardiff & Vale and Julia Preece from The Princess Royal Trust Carers’ Centre for Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. The two charities, who both help adult and young carers, had been selected by Cardiff Immediate Past President, Chris Archer, to benefit from his Presidential year charity fund and a cheque for £2,800 was presented to the two representatives for them to share equally. Bro Chris said that he had selected charities that helped carers as the work that unpaid carers do is not always appreciated and he had personal experience within his own family. In their responses Shan and Julia thanked the Circle for their generous donations and Shan explained that some the money would be used for the support of carers of people with mental health problems and some would be spent giving young carers the opportunity to do activities that they would otherwise not be able to do such as sailing; whitewater rafting or paintballing and awareness raising of young carers issues in school. Julia said that the money for her charity would help to fund the provision of respite care for young carers enabling them to days out to local attractions.
