Cardiff Plummet to New Depths
On Sunday 27 June 2010 members of Cardiff Circle visited the Pig Pit at Blaenavon, a World Heritage Site. The visit commenced with a picnic in glorious weather at nearby Garn Lake and then the party enjoyed a conducted tour led by a former miner 90 metres below the surface. There was also a visit to the onsite museum giving the fascinating and sometimes tragic history of mining in South Wales. Parts of the old mine facilities have been restored such as the boot room and the showers.
