Annual Boules Evening

The Monkstone Petanque Club played host to our annual boules evening on 9 August 2018. Club President Mike Jones welcomed the visitors on a bright but slightly chilly evening. 29 Brothers and ladies attended which is the highest number yet. Many of the Catenians had attended the boules evening in previous years but Club members put on a short demonstration for the newcomers of how the game is played.

Two games of triples were played with one Club member partnering 2 Catenians, some of whom showed a high degree of proficiency at the game – so much so that membership forms were nearly produced.

Following the play everyone retired to the bar for apres-boules and excellent refreshments. The short speeches were slightly bizarre as unfortunately Catenian President, Bernard Hayward,  was indisposed and could not attend so the thank-you to the Club and handing over of a donation were delivered by Vice-President Bernard Adshead, who is also a Club member, to Roger Griffin the Club Secretary who was standing in for the Club President who had had to leave early. Roger said that it had been a great evening and that the Catenians were always welcome at any time and he hoped that this annual event would continue for many years. He then handed back the donation to Bernard in his capacity of Club Treasurer!
