2017 Province 12 Quiz

Cardiff in Seventh Heaven

Province 12 held its 10^th annual Quiz Night at the Newport Fugitives Rugby Club on 20 October 2017. Approximately 12 teams representing most of the Circles in the Province signed in and, as usual, Mike Scarlett from Herford Circle had set an intriguing quiz with his standard picture round being on a Catholic theme. In the past we have had pictures of popes, shrines, churches etc and this year he came up with “Saints and Blesseds of the 19^th & 20^th Century”.

The Cardiff team consisting of Jon Dartnell, Peter Sullivan, Mark Johnson and Bernard Adshead, made a slow start but gathered momentum as the rounds progressed with the best score being a perfect 12 in round 4. A break was called for all the quizzers to tuck into a sumptuous buffet and while this being consumed Cardiff’s ace-in-the-hole, Peter, tackled the saints and blessed and correctly identified a stunning 18 out of 25. This along with the score of 12 proved sufficient to beat off all the opposition and Cardiff ran out winners by 9 points. This was Cardiff’s seventh successive win in the competition.
