Sunshine
Following last year’s event held in incessant rain, Cardiff Circle’s 2013 Charity Golf Day on 11 July was blessed with scorching sunshine.. Despite the inclement conditions 46 Catenians and guests (including one ladies team) battled their way round Llanishen Golf Course. The golf was followed by a meal in the club-house when the golfers were joined by a further 40 Catenians and ladies. The Captain of the Llanishen Club, Derek Lowthe, welcomed the Catenians and their guests back to the club for the annual event and he recalled what a good time he had had when he had visited Dublin as a guest on a Catenian visit some years ago. The day had been organised, as usual, by Bro Paul Good and in his welcome Cardiff President, Bro Mark Johnson, thanked Bro Paul and all those who had played in the pouring rain and also those who had come along to the meal to support his charity, George Thomas Hospice Care. Bro Mark told the assembly about the valuable work that the Hospice does in caring for the terminally ill. After the meal Llanishen Captain Derek presented the prizes and the winning team was composed of 2 Catenians and 2 guests. The evening raised a total of almost £1,750 for the President’s charity including a boost from Barclays Bank’s charity match funding scheme.
