CARDIFF CATENIANS ENTERTAIN THE CLERGY
Some 45 brothers and ladies of Cardiff Circle entertained the clergy of the Cardiff Deaneries at their annual Clergy Night dinner at the Angel Hotel Cardiff on 20 April 2009. As always it was a very enjoyable evening with an excellent meal and good fellowship. The evening was attended by His Grace the Archbishop of Cardiff The Most Rev Peter Smith and the Circle was also delighted to entertain Mrs Ethna Doherty the widow of former Cardiff member Bro Gerry Doherty. Cardiff Circle President Bro Bernard Adshead said in his welcome address that the attendance of the Archbishop showed support for the Circle and the Association from the highest level within the Archdiocese. He also expressed appreciation for all that the clergy do particularly as we are expecting more and more from fewer and fewer clergy and said the he was in no doubt that The Lord would provide a solution – expressing a personal view he hoped that this would be by more involvement of the laity rather than reducing the number of parish communities. In his response the Archbishop thanked the Circle on behalf of all the guests and expressed his appreciation for the work of the Association in the Archdiocese.
